After a plunge into the historic sights of Kathmandu (1,337m/4,385ft), trek to the foot of Mount Everest (8,850m/29,028ft) following the classic expedition route since the ‘50s. From the mountain airstrip at Lukla (2,886m/9,466ft) hike to Base Camp (5,364m/17,594ft) to see the Khumbu Icefall and to the rocky outcrop of Kala Patthar (5,545m/18,188ft) for awesome views of Everest and the snow capped panorama of other Himalayan giants. The other highlights of this trek are visiting delightful Sherpa villages, less frequented side valley of Thame (3,800m/12,464ft) and meeting the friendly people. Also visiting active monasteries of Tengboche (3,867m/12,684ft) and Pangboche (3,985m/13,071ft) the oldest of the Khumbu (Everest) region en-route to experience the spirituality of Tibetan Buddhism so prevalent in the mountains of Nepal.
PHYSICAL FITNESS: Grade D (Challenging)
This challenging trek requires that you are very fit and have previous trekking experience. It involves several days of hiking at high altitude.
Arrive Kathmandu – Join tour
Tour Kathmandu (Pashupatinath Temple and Boudhanath Stupa)
Fly to Lukla and trek to Phakding (2,640m/8,659ft)
Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,283ft) with a layover day to explore and acclimatize
Hike to the small settlement of Thame and Khumjung (3,790m/12,431ft), an educational center
Trek to Devoche (3,820m/12,530ft) via Tengboche Monastery which has spectacular views of Ama Dablam (6,812m/22,343ft) and Everest
Trek to the summer pasture of Dingboche (4,410m/14,465ft) with a layover day to rest and acclimatize
Hike to Lobuche (4,930m/16,170ft) and Gorak Shep (5,140m/16,859ft), then to Base Camp and Kala Patthar, and return to Tuglha (4,620m/15,154ft)
Walk down the Imja Khola valley to Devoche
Trek back to Lukla via Namche Bazaar
Fly to Kathmandu
Free day in Kathmandu (early morning optional Everest Mountain Flight – extra)
Depart Kathmandu – Tour ends (or carry on Rafting & Chitwan Extension)
